Evans, Ga. -Griffin Cheatwood fired a bogey free round and sits at -4 to take the first round lead of the Vaughn Taylor Championship presented by James Hardie. For the girls, it’s Gloria Nip and Zoe Duvall tied for the top spot at -5.
Cheatwood, from Charlotte, NC, had a pair of birdies on both the ftont and back nine and kept his scorecard clean of bogies for the lead. Sam Terry and Todd Marovich are a shot back with six others posting -2 rounds.
Nip, originally from Hong Kong, posted five birdies including back-to-back birdies to finish the day. For Duvall of Cummings, Ga., she carded one birdie on the front nine to go along with five more on the back nine. One bogey kept her from having the outright lead.
Katie Ha is one shot back with just four others under par after Tuesday’s opening round.
Round two will tee off at 8: 00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
