Girls qualify three for the Vaughn Taylor Championship, boy’s portion rained out

June 11, 2022

Evans, Ga. – Mother nature tried to spoil the qualifying event for the Vaughn Taylor Championship presented by James Hardie and had some success in wiping out the boy’s portion of the qualifier. But the girls did manage to get their portion of the event in with Jessalyn Young of Atlanta, being the medalist after posting a -1 (70) Sunday afternoon.

The qualifying for the girls also was delayed because of the weather, but Young prevailed as medalist. She carded a birdie and eagle on the afternoon to best the field by one shot as there was a three-way tie for second place.

Arenui Faana from Florida, Julie Herzberg, from North Carolina, and Alisa Pressley of Houschton, Georgia, get the three qualifying spots for the championship which starts on Tuesday.

The boy’s field is set at 50 players with 27 girls set to tee it up hoping to bring home the top prize on Thursday afternoon.

Monday will feature the Jim Burton Memorial Junior-Amateur.

Tuesday is the opening round with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
